Do you remember that old Playhouse Disney show Bear in the Big Blue House? Well, if you remember the show, then you probably remember Luna the Moon. Deep inside, Luna is far from graceful. A monstrous hunger filled monster watching over the horizon. Atleast, that’s what I think after watching the episode.
I was working at Walt Disney World in Florida as a janitor. As I was cleaning the inside of a soundstage, I encountered a tape of some sort of test animation of Luna. I assumed that someone who was working on the show left this here and later forgot about it, and I brought back to my place and decided to take a closer look at it. The label said “Luna 666”, written in reddish brownish ink. I put the tape in my VCR and hit play. The Picture faded in with it just saying “LUNA” in Big Red Letters. It somewhat looked unnerving to look at.
The show started out with no intro as to be expected with these test animations, and it showed the Big Blue House but there were no characters walking around inside of it. It was like the house was pretty much vacant. 7 Minutes went by of the camera just going through all the rooms of the house but, no one was there. Strangely, I could hear the audio of some sort of noise. It sounded like someone eating something.. meaty. These whole 7 minutes you just heard someone crunching on something like they were eating a steak or fries.
The camera then pans towards the unfinished Sky, where you see Luna opening and closing her mouth as though she had just eaten something. And then by the end of the “episode”, I realized that she consumed all the characters and her friends in the house. She quite literally ate everyone. Eventually, she started to have her jaw seemingly unhinge. Her mouth being distorted similar to that of if someone manually made her mouth look open like that in some old 3D software, and revealed the bodies of the characters inside. They were all coated with this blood like substance, and was very.. blue? The tape ejected right afterwards, and I was.. shocked, to say the very least.
Apparently one of the writers that used to be an animator had a history of liking really messed up imagery, and he used his animation and editing skills to create the Luna Tape. I soon learned that he hid the tape because he wanted to see if anyone could find this disturbing animation test after going to him about it. We later went to a bar and talked some things out. To be completely honest, he was not half bad. I had to give credit, he did a really good job on the tape. I can’t lie about that.
I was still freaked out from watching this, so I told all the rest of my colleagues about it. We had a pretty hardy laugh and had a bit of a sleepover that night, along with going to bar with the guy who made the tape himself. I got over the fear of the imagery in the video, because well.. It’s just a video, what harm could’ve come from it? Yet, I still had a lingering sense that something could be watching me out there. And whenever I walk out in the dead of night, I feel like if I could stare at the moon.. It, would gaze back.
