I've always been a fan of Cartoon Network. Waking up in the morning watching Adventure Time with a bowl of cereal was a highlight of my childhood, so when I found out I was able to apply at Cartoon Network, I couldn't wait…and then they added me into the Teen Titans Go department. I've never been a huge fan and stopped watching it after Season 3, but I was content working with Cartoon Network, whether or not it was a show that I liked. While we were on lunch break, I started to walk around a bit to explore, and I found a slightly cracked open door with a dim light. I walked in, and towers upon towers of Teen Titans Go content was in there. Merchandise scrapped concepts, and episode ideas, you name it! So, every time we went on lunch break, I always made it my duty to watch all the scrapped episodes to see how they could've looked…and then I came across one called "Robin Flew From The Coop". Curious, I put it on the TV and decided to watch it.
The episode started normally, the intro was the same, and the music was still as good as I remember. After the intro, the title card said "Robin Flew From The Coop", and started with Robin walking into the kitchen in a depressed manner, with his hair messy and scruffy and with baggy eyes, with the rest of the Titans eating cereal.
"Hey bro, you know what day it is?" Beast Boy said towards Robin.
Robin was unresponsive and started to walk towards the kitchen board, with his head hung low.
Cyborg then started to extend his head towards him and shouted "Beat Up Robin Day!" And started to slam him onto the ground, with Raven forming a fist and hitting him and Beast Boy turning a woodpecker and pecking him.
Robin started to break down and cry.
"Why!?", he said with teary eyes.
They then started to slow down with concerned looks.
"Uh, is everything okay?" Raven asked, with Robin now bawling and running out of the kitchen.
"What's up with him?" Beast Boy asked.
Cyborg started to talk, however, there was no audio for some reason, only lip sync.
"Oh, how I hate seeing friend Robin like this", she said, with a saddened expression.
Starfire then started to fly out of the kitchen, with the Titans still eating at the table.
The next scene started to play, however, it changed to storyboard abruptly.
Starfire flew towards Robin's room and knocked three times.
"Friend Robin?", She said.
No response.
"Robin?" She said again, with a worried expression.
No response again.
"I'm here to help." She said, sweating and a forced smile
She then opened the door, and the next frame showed Robin lying in bed quietly sobbing.
Starfire then let out a long sigh and sat next to him.
"Friend Robin?" She said, with the same voice clip from beforehand.
"Why are you helping me?" Robin asked.
"Because you're important to me, to us, and I hate seeing you like this" She responded
"Then why do y'all always beat me up? Do you know how painful it is to go from being friends to being pummeled to the ground?" Robin said while hyperventilating. Starfire seemed like she was gonna say something, but stayed silent.
"I know it may come off as me coming off as a micro-manager to y'all, but as a leader, I want to make sure that y'all stay on top of your toes. I don't want to fail as a leader, I want to step out of Batman's shadow and be more than just a sidekick." Robin said.
"Robin." She said and placed her hand on his shoulder.
Robin started to sob more, with Starfire rubbing his shoulder, and the scene started to fade out.
The next frame showed Starfire and the others walking up to a gravestone, with flowers, what seemed to be Robin's hair gel, and the Darkside plush from the side of their couch. Cyborg was wearing a black suit, with Beast Boy wearing one as well, but a little more scruffy and less tidy than Cyborgs, Raven had her cloak off with gothic clothing and Starfire looked like a mess, with her hair was ungroomed and her clothes had stains as well.
"I failed him…" She said, with the Titans comforting her, and it zoomed out slowly and faded to black with them all saying "We all did."
The credits played but with a more calm and somber tone, with the final text saying "To my best friend, David Morris." Suddenly, my alarm rang and our boss announced to everyone to get back to their station, which made my heart skip a beat, and I walked out of the room.
After 3 years, I’m still surprised that the tape exists, however, I send my condolences to David Morris and his loved ones. I can try and post the full tape online if I can get enough time, I’ll post an update on here if I do.
